The combination of rap and electronic music has recently become popularized through trap music. However, there is a softer side to this hybrid of genres that has not yet been explored by many artists. That’s where British singer and rapper Elliot John Gleave, better known by his stage name Example steps in. For his newest album, The Evolution of Man he has collaborated with EDM heavyweight Dillon Francis on a new track called “Someone to Die For” that explores a new take on rap and electro. The album, released under Mad Decent, also features collaborations and remixes by other incredible EDM artists such as Calvin Harris on his song "We'll Be Coming Back," Laidback Luke on "Eutopia (Fade Away)," Flux Pavilion on "Daydreamer" and Hardwell and Dannic on "Say Nothing."
“Someone to Die For” is an extremely unique piece, as it is a softer, sing-song take on the synthesis of hip-hop and EDM. The piece starts with Example’s beautiful vocals over a classically youthful Dillon Francis beat, and features the electronic sound of the beat rather than the vocals. However as the song progresses to the middle section, the electronic aspects take a back seat and Example’s lyrics take the wheel, telling a clear story of his own personal journey. The juxtaposition of the slower, more heartfelt vocals and Dillon Francis’ joyful sound create a beautiful combination that we’ve fallen in love with.
Whether you’re shouting the lyrics with friends, taking a night time drive, or a combination of both, “Someone to Die For” is an incredible song that should make its way into everyone’s music library. Purchase it, or Example's entire new album, on Itunes today!
