Last year, a young Londerner named Max Rowat burst into the dubstep scene under the alias Koven. He displayed an early mastery of the bass spectrum with a number of remixes, but it wasn't until he teamed up with his partner, vocalist Kate Ashton, and released the Wake You Up EP that he achieved breakthrough success. After widespread recognition on UKF, Inpsector Dubplate and BBC Radio 1 - Koven is back with the debut of their latest single.
"More Than You" opens more akin to an acoustic lament than a bass-fueled dance track. Plucked guitars are layered beneath an emphatic vocal from Ashton, which digs deeper than the characteristically shallow lyricism of dance music. And with an effortless drum roll, the entire track flows into detailed bass swells and an almost orchestral approach to the drop, complete with airy strings and ethereal piano tones.
Koven recently signed an exclusive deal with Viper Recordings, owned by D&B kingpin Futurebound, so you can expect to see a lot more from them, including a full live show, in the coming months. "More Than You" is set to release in early 2013.
