Into the AM Profiles Insomniac's EDC Discovery Project Winners Paris Burns

Paris Burns Interview, Artist Profile, New Music, Free Download, Mix

If you’ve been on Beatport’s website at all the past two days, chances are you have seen some new fire on the front page, literally.  A flame adorns the cover of Paris Burns' most recent release, Raise Your Torch, which is currently sitting on the front page under the New Release section and is also listed as one of Beatport’s Best of Year Picks in the electro house section, despite hitting the market on New Years Eve.

Into The AM first caught on to the work of Alex and Dan Yukhananov last May when the duo opened for James Egbert as a part of Egbert’s release party for his album, In The Beginning.  On the album, which hit Top 5 status, was a remix by Paris Burns of the popular track, “Back To New.”

That was not Paris Burns’ first experience charting on Beatport though. They also had modest success with “Bit Bot,” an industrial electro house track that made it as high as #52 on Beatport’s electro house chart. Also, a little known fact about Paris Burns: they released a track titled "Wildfire" on exact same date that the incredibly destructive Colorado wildfires started this past summer.

Despite all that, the Denver-based duo's original productions had, until recently, gone mostly unnoticed to much of the electronic scene.  However, their talents did not escape the folks at Insomniac, who, this past fall, chose the Yukhananov brothers as winners of the coveted EDC Discovery Project for the festival's Orlando weekend in November.  The experience was quite memorable for the two: it included getting to meet Armin van Buuren, someone they look up to, as well as the other Discovery Project winners who Alex and Dan characterized as, “really awesome people."

"Sometimes you hear about producers who have these big heads," they added. "But everyone was really cool and friendly.

Alex also had an interesting and entertaining run-in with Insomniac head honcho Pasquale Rotella and the mother of his incoming child, Holly Madison. Dan explained, “Of course Alex would be the only person there rolling his own cigarettes.” To which security was alerted for a few reasons, the larger of which being Madison’s recently announced pregnancy.  Obviously, she wanted to stay away from cigarette smoke, so the security guard asked Alex to take his smoke elsewhere.  Although Alex, who has the quirk of only smoking when he's on the road, made sure Adam and I knew, “I had no idea who she was at the time!

Paris Burns ended up playing to an energized and enthused Saturday night crowd at the Discovery Stage.  Thier set included many originals and two of their unreleased tracks, “Ios” (pronounced “ee-os”) and “Project A.”  On New Years Eve, both of those tracks were released on Cold Blank’s Burn The Fire label via the two-song release, Raise Your Torch.  There is no doubt that the veteran producer is fully behind this release, as he has already been playing “Ios” in his live sets.  They have also already received love for Raise Your Torch from Maor Levi, Mikkas, and Felix Cartal.

Not wasting any time, the pair have already started work on several tracks, some details of which can be shared.  Several original productions are in the concept stages, but already have the makings of 128 bangers, “...we’re working on the core concepts of a new album to come later this year,” claimed the duo.

There is also another project Paris Burns are working on that they were visibly excited for: a collaboration with a certain prominent artist.  Unfortunately, they could not reveal exactly who it is at this time, since it is still in progress, but I’m sure the world will be alerted soon enough.

Having only played a handful of shows in 2012, and finally taking on the big stage experience, you can expect to see many more live shows around the country from Paris Burns in the new year, and, in the very near future, there is a filthy remix they will release as a free download.  As we wrapped up chatting about their future plans, Dan said something that is likely to prove true this year for the talented siblings, “It’s gonna get crazy.”

Check out their hard-hitting electro productions “Project A” and “Ios” off Raise Your Torch and grab a free download of their mix straight from EDC Orlando. Update: one week after its release Raise Your Torch is up to the #16 overall release on Beatport.
